X(yz+1): You’re only as much as you settle for. If they settle for being somebody’s dishwasher that’s their own fcking problem. If you don’t settle for that and you keep fighting it, you know, you’ll end up anything you want to be. ~Janis Joplin

THE CAVALRY AIN’T COMING:

I spent too many years just waiting,
For something somewhere to come around,
For a better hand, a lucky break,
Somebody to pull me off this ground.
Kept telling myself come tomorrow,
Maybe everything would finally change,
But tomorrow kept turning into yesterday,
And I was standing in the same old place.

Then one night the truth came calling,
And it didn’t knock… it kicked the door in…

The cavalry ain’t coming,
Nobody’s riding in,
Nobody’s gonna fight your battles,
Or tell you where to begin.
If you want a better life,
Then brother, you’d better move,
You can curse the road beneath your feet,
Or pick the one you choose.
There’s a whole wide world out there,
But you’ve gotta want it bad enough
The cavalry ain’t coming,
So saddle up.

Maybe it’s the job that’s killing you,
Maybe it’s the bottle by the bed,
Maybe it’s somebody who keeps telling you
You’ll never be more than what they said.
Maybe it’s the face there in the mirror,
You’ve spent a lifetime learning to doubt,
But chains don’t always need a lock and key
Sometimes you just have to walk yourself out.

You don’t need another man’s permission,
You don’t need the whole world on your side…

The cavalry ain’t coming,
Nobody’s riding in,
Nobody’s gonna fight your battles,
Or tell you where to begin.
If you want a better life,
Then brother, you’d better move,
You can curse the road beneath your feet,
Or pick the one you choose.
There’s a whole wide world out there,
But you’ve gotta want it bad enough
The cavalry ain’t coming,
So saddle up.

Wanting ain’t the same as doing,
Dreaming ain’t the same as change,
You can spend your whole life making wishes
While the years just slip away.
Sometimes better costs you comfort,
Sometimes freedom costs you friends,
Sometimes you’ve gotta close one chapter
Before another can begin.

You might stumble.
You might fall.
You might find out you were wrong.
But a man who chooses his own road
Is already moving on.

Stop waiting for the perfect moment.
Stop waiting for a sign.
Stop living by somebody else’s
Definition of your life.

You get one ride through this world,
One name carved into that stone,
So decide what you’re willing to settle for
And what you’re willing to leave alone.

The door won’t open itself…

So turn the handle.

Nobody’s riding in!
Nobody’s gonna live your life,
You’ve gotta decide where it begins.
If there’s something that you need to change,
Then change what you can today,
You don’t have to see the whole damn road
To take one step that way.

The cavalry ain’t coming…
And maybe that’s all right.
‘Cause the hands you’ve been waiting to save you
Have been yours your whole damn life.

Saddle up.
