X(yz+1): Many of us have had our asses handed to us. We’ve been knocked around by life. We’ve lost people, lost work, made mistakes, carried anger and scars, finally coming to realize that surviving isn’t about winning or pretending that everything is fine. It’s about standing back up, facing the truth, refusing to become bitter, and moving forward.

STILL HERE, STILL BREATHING:

A little bolder…

I kept my dreams in a beat-up old truck
And my doubts in the glovebox map
Every mile that the highway took
Was a mile I wasn’t giving back
I lost some friends to the bottle and time
Lost some sleep to the weight of regret
Had a few years I don’t talk about
But I ain’t finished living yet

‘Cause the truth ain’t a hammer
And the past ain’t a chain
You can carry your scars
Without carrying the blame

We’re still here, still breathing
Still learning what a heart can hold
We won’t bow to the easy answer
We won’t trade our fire for gold
If the whole world turns its back tonight
We’ll face it shoulder to shoulder
Still here, still breathing
A little wiser, a little bolder

There’s a dent in the old blue mailbox
From the year the whole town went cold
When the mill shut down and the paychecks stopped
And a man learns what he thinks he’s worth
Mama kept every unpaid bill
In a coffee tin by the stove
Daddy swallowed every word of fear
So his children would never know

I watched good men bury their anger
Till it hardened underneath their skin
And I swore I would never live that way
I’d speak before the silence wins

The truth ain’t a weapon
And pride ain’t a shield
You can carry your scars
And still refuse to kneel

We’re still here, still breathing
Still learning what a heart can hold
We won’t bow to the easy answer
We won’t trade our fire for gold
If the whole world turns its back tonight
We’ll face it shoulder to shoulder
Still here, still breathing
A little wiser, a little bolder

Take the long way home, let the old fence lean
Let the rain wash the dust from the windshield clean
I don’t need to win every fight anymore
I just need to know what I’m standing for
I’ve been knocked down, I’ve been counted out
I’ve stood alone in the pouring rain
But every scar that I carry now
Is proof I got back up again

We’re still here, still breathing
Still learning what a heart can hold
We won’t bow to the easy answer
We won’t trade our fire for gold
If the whole world turns its back tonight
We’ll face it shoulder to shoulder
Still here, still breathing
A little wiser, a little bolder

Still here
Still breathing
Still standing
Still believing
A little wiser
A little bolder
