X(yz+1): They’ll sell you beauty you can’t attain, a better body, a better name, a better house, a better car, anything to make you hate where you are. They’ll sell you outrage by the pound, keep you angry, keep you around, left hand points while the right hand takes, and every click is another mistake.
IT’S ALL A SALES PITCH:
The news is just another sales pitch,
With everybody working the room,
They’ll sell you heaven, then sell you hell,
While airing videos of gloom and doom.
They’ll tell you that the world is totally broken,
That their healing is the cure you need
So it’s important that you remember
That their words are like a poisonous seed.
Turn on the screen, somebody’s selling,
Turn up the dial, somebody’s yelling,
Open your phone, they’re waiting there,
Selling you anger, selling you fear.
They know what hurts, they know what pays,
They know how long you’ll stop and gaze,
They’ll tell you what’s wrong, then sell you the cure,
Keep saying it loud till you’re not so sure.
Everybody wants a piece of your attention,
Everybody’s got a truth for sale,
But a thousand voices shouting in your head
Don’t make a single one of ’em real.
It’s all a sales pitch,
Everybody’s working the room,
Selling you heaven, selling you hell,
Selling you something to do.
They’ll tell you you’re broken,
Then tell you what you need
But what you let inside your mind
Can be poison just the same.
Yeah, guard that door,
Before somebody else decides your name.
They’ll sell you beauty you can’t attain,
A better body, a better name,
A better house, a better car,
Anything to make you hate where you are.
They’ll sell you outrage by the pound,
Keep you angry, keep you around,
Left hand points while the right hand takes,
And every click is another mistake.
They don’t need chains around your ankles,
They don’t need bars around your bed,
Just keep feeding you the message
Till their voice sounds like yours inside your head.
It’s all a sales pitch,
Everybody’s working the room,
Selling you heaven, selling you hell,
Selling you something to do.
They’ll tell you you’re broken,
Then tell you what you need,
But what you let inside your mind
Can be poison just the same.
Yeah, guard that door,
Before somebody else decides your name.
You wouldn’t drink from a bottle
If somebody marked it POISON,
You wouldn’t swallow every pill
Just because somebody made some noise.
So why pour every word you hear
Straight into your head?
Some things don’t have to kill the body
To leave something inside you dead.
‘Cause it’s all a sales pitch,
Everybody’s working the room,
Selling you anger, selling you fear,
Selling you somebody else’s truth.
They’ll tell you you’re broken,
They’ll tell you what you need,
But what you allow inside your mind
Can be poison just the same.
So guard that door,
You decide what gets inside.
Guard that door,
You don’t need somebody else to run your life.
