X(yz+1): There are a lot of us who, for whatever reason, have spent too much of our lives feeling incomplete, or simply not good enough. For some, it lasts months; for others, years, or for people like myself… even decades. But you don’t need anyone’s permission to be yourself. This life is yours. Own it. Starting now.

TIRED OF NOT BEING MYSELF:

I wore your rules like a borrowed coat
Buttoned up tight till I could barely breathe
Kept every hard truth caught in my throat
Smiled for the room while I vanished underneath

I know the face in the mirror now
It looks like someone I was told to be
But there’s a pulse in my hands somehow
Still fighting to come back to me

I’m tired of not being myself
Tired of shelving what I feel
I’ve bent too far for somebody else
Now I’m standing on what’s real
No more asking for permission
No more shrinking on the shelf
If I lose what never fit me
I’ll be better being myself

I left my boots by an unfamiliar door
Traded my thunder for a quiet little room
Every yes made the silence roar
Every compromise carved out more room for gloom

There’s a line I drew in the dust tonight
And I won’t step across it again
I may shake when I face the light
But I’ll know where I begin

I’m tired of not being myself
Tired of shelving what I feel
I’ve bent too far for somebody else
Now I’m standing on what’s real
No more asking for permission
No more shrinking on the shelf
If I lose what never fit me
I’ll be better being myself

Let the old disguise hit the floor
Let the locked-up door come down
I don’t need their map anymore
I can find my way from here somehow

I’m tired of not being myself
Tired of living half-alive
I’ve bent too far for somebody else
Now I’m taking back my life
No more asking for permission
No more shrinking on the shelf
If I lose what never fit me
I’ll be better being myself
I’ll be better being myself

I’m back in my own skin
Back in my own skin
