X(yz+1): Sometimes the end of a relationship doesn’t come with screaming, broken dishes, or words you can’t take back. Sometimes it comes quietly, when you realize loving someone doesn’t require accepting what they’ve become. “I Didn’t Say” is about that moment when betrayal meets something it never expected… calm acceptance. The love may still be there, but so is the self-respect to finally open the door and say goodbye.

I DIDN’T SAY:

You came through the door rehearsing
All the lies you’d used before
But this time I knew the answers
Before you made it through the door
You were waiting for the thunder
For the pictures off the wall
But I just looked at you and wondered
When you got so damn small

You thought I’d fight to keep you
Thought I’d beg you not to go
But there’s one thing with losing trust
I guess you didn’t know

I didn’t say I didn’t love you
I didn’t say I didn’t care
I didn’t say it didn’t matter
I only said I don’t want you here
You can call it cold or heartless
You can tell yourself I’m wrong
I didn’t say I didn’t love you
I just said your love ain’t worth holding on

For months you played your little secret
With a man who wore a ring
And somehow you convinced yourself
That made you worth something
You thought that you were some grand prize
Two men were fighting to possess
But a prize don’t lose its value
It loses when it loses self-respect

So don’t mistake my silence
For a heart that doesn’t break
I’m just not gonna lose myself
For somebody else’s mistake

I didn’t say I didn’t love you
I didn’t say I didn’t care
I didn’t say it didn’t matter
I only said I don’t want you here
You can call it cold or heartless
You can tell yourself I’m wrong
I didn’t say I didn’t love you
I just said your love ain’t worth holding on

Maybe you wanted me screaming
Maybe you needed that scene
Something to make me the villain
And wash your conscience clean
But I won’t give you that ending
I won’t give anger the stage
You made your choice in the shadows
I’m making mine in the light of day

I hope someday you find yourself
And figure out what you threw away
But I’m not standing at this doorway
Waiting for that day

I didn’t say I didn’t love you
I didn’t say I didn’t care
I didn’t say it didn’t matter
I only said I don’t want you here
Yeah, part of me will miss you
But missing you won’t make me stay
You thought you’d always be my prize
Till you gave your worth away

I didn’t say I didn’t love you
That’s what makes this hard to do
I just finally love myself enough
To say goodbye to you

No, I didn’t say I didn’t love you…
I just said we’re through.
